In memory of a very special Husband, Dad, Papa and friend – the ‘most perfect gentleman’ Douglas Kerr.
On Saturday 27th of April 2019 Scott & the rest of his Family organised a charity ball which was attended by friends, family, colleagues and companies who all supported the evening to raise vital funds for ACCORD Hospice and Beatson Cancer Charity
Scott is very thankful for the help, care and support given by ACCORD Hospice and Beatson Cancer Charity that was provided to both Dougie and his family during a very difficult time fighting Advanced Melanoma Cancer. The evening was to support the work of these services and raise much needed awareness of the advanced melanoma cancer which Dougie had.
Eventually, Metastatic Wild Type BRAF Melanoma sadly took a great man’s life on the 22nd May 2018. We hope that the research found from clinical trials that Dougie took part in, provide hope for the future in the battle against Advanced Melanoma Cancer.
Scott has said “I wanted to organise the event to pay tribute to not only my dad but a friend to so many people and to share his story of the cancer returning back after 25 years which was a shock to us all in the family. My Dad fought the cancer with such dignity & strength which has got my mum sister and myself through the hardest time of our lives, it has given us the strength to carry on living our lives to the full knowing he is with us all the time’’
A dinner for Dougie raised an incredible £20,700 which will be donated between ACCORD Hospice and Beatson Cancer Charity to help continue their work for those who need it. The evening was filled with lots of fun and entertainment for the guests it included a performance from the amazing GAMPTA dance group , a special solo performance from Ashley Gardener, a fantastic Raffle, Silent & Live Auction which was supported tremendously by the event there raising lots of money.
A live band REAL EASY closed the night which all guest enjoyed. During the evening there was a short talk given by a melanoma cancer nurse to raise awareness of how serious melanoma can be. A special mention must go to John McKay Jewellers who supported the evening from the beginning – donating a diamond ring which raised over £4,000 on the night.
The Kerr family would also like to take this opportunity to thank friends, family and work colleagues for their continued support during and after the sad passing of Dougie. A special thanks to all those who attended, donated or supported the charity ball- Is appreciated more than you know.
David McFadden, Senior Fundraiser at ACCORD Hospice. ‘’ There are not many people who could achieve what Scott and the family have, it’s been an honour to work alongside them all to raise vital funds for both ACCORD Hospice and Beatson Cancer Charity. It may have begun as an event in memory of Dougie, but it turned out to be one of celebration. A huge thank you to all those who volunteered or donated as an incredible amount was raised to support these two amazing charities. Thank you.’’
