ACCORD Hospice is delighted to announce that one of our dedicated volunteers, Anne McKerchar, has been awarded the Order of Mercy Medal. The award was presented to Anne by The Rt Hon the Lord Lingfield at the Mansion House in the City of London on Friday 12th of July.

Anne began her volunteering journey with ACCORD almost ten years ago following her retirement and has since devoted countless hours to supporting our patients and their families. Her unwavering commitment and compassionate spirit have made a significant impact across many areas of our hospice from patient services to fundraising.

Anne's contributions include her work at the Community Hub, where she has provided consistent support to day patients, spreading joy through activities and groups like ‘Chatter Matters’. Additionally, Anne is known for her comforting presence at the Renfrewshire Bereavement Network, always ready with a cup of tea and a listening ear for distressed family members.

Anne’s humility, kindness, and professionalism have endeared her to everyone at ACCORD Hospice. We are incredibly proud of her well-deserved recognition and grateful for her continued dedication to our community.

‘’I was honoured to receive this award on behalf of ACCORD Hospice. It was a very humbling experience. I am privileged to be one of the many volunteers who give of their time and support to ACCORD which in turn gives so much to the community’’ – Anne

Patient and Family Support Team Lead, Joy Elliot attended alongside Anne and said ‘’I had the great privilege to attend the award ceremony in London on behalf of ACCORD. Watching our volunteer Anne receive the Order of Mercy Medal was amazing. I also was able to be with Anne’s sister Sandra who was very proud of her and commented to me on how humbling it was to see the compassion and kindness that brought all those chosen together.

I personally am so grateful to Anne and all the volunteers who support the work of the Patient & Family Support Service. Anne is such a great representation of the volunteers that ACCORD has.

Congratulations Anne on a very well-deserved award.’’

Thank you for all you do Anne, a true #HospiceHero
