Thank you for donating or shopping at ACCORD

Our Shops

ACCORD has a total of 6 shops throughout the local area which sell a good range of quality second-hand goods, including furniture and safety checked electrical items.

We depend on donations of goods from the public, as well as their custom, in order to recycle items, benefiting the environment and generating funds to support the delivery of palliative and end of life care in our local community.

Grab a bargain from one of our six shops and help support ACCORD hospice in delivering vital care to our patients and their families.

You can also find out about our latest news on twitter @shopsatACCORD or Facebay page

Clothing Bank

We also have a Clothing Bank situated at our Glasgow Road Superstore which is available 24 hours a day, which is maintained by ACCORD and all donations are processed by the Shops Team.

ACCORD now has to pay to dispose of any donations which are not deemed sellable in our shops. While we appreciate the level of donations we receive, can we specifically ask you to follow these broad guidelines which helps us only take items which we can sell or recycle and avoids the expense of having to take items to the amenity sites for disposal:

What can I donate?

We are happy to take a range of clothing and household items, as long as they’re clean and in a good condition. Items that are usually accepted include:

  • Clothing
  • Shoes and bags
  • Accessories and jewellery
  • Books
  • CDs and DVDs (that aren’t home recorded)
  • Homeware, such as ornaments, china, kitchenware and photo frames
  • Children’s toys and games (with a CE label if it’s a soft toy)

Some items, such as bicycles, sofas etc that have fire safety labels and mobile phones, may also be accepted depending on their condition.

What can’t I donate? Mainly due to safety regulations, there are a number of items that we can’t accept. The items which unfortunately we cannot accept are:

Kitchenware

  • Heating and cooking equipment that use gas or oil
  • Knives unless in a box
  • Scissors

Safety equipment

  • Safety helmets
  • Safety harnesses
  • Cycle helmets
  • Life jackets
  • Buoyancy aids

Children’s items

  • Inflatable toys for water
  • Car seats
  • Prams
  • Pushchairs
  • Buggies
  • Cots
  • High chairs
  • Cot mattresses
  • Soft toys without the CE label

Soft furnishings

  • Used pillows and duvets (although pillow cases and mattress covers may be accepted)
  • Mattresses unless in excellent, unmarked condition
  • Furniture without fire safety labels

Electrical items

  • Electric blankets
  • Power tools without instructions

Other

  • Weapons
  • Oil lamps
  • Prescription glasses
  • Items made from ivory
  • Petrol or diesel fuelled garden equipment
  • Personal items, such as shavers (unless unused and in a sealed box)

A good guideline is “would you consider purchasing this item in the state it is being donated?” – if the answer is “no” we are unlikely to be able to sell or even recycle. Help us try to keep our costs down by only donating appropriate items to our shops. If in any doubt, please contact the appropriate shop beforehand and ask the question.

For home pick-ups, we ask for specific information relating to the condition of all items in advance so our drivers know what it has been agreed they should uplift. Our drivers have discretion not to take things which are not as has been described to us. They should explain exactly the reason why they are not able to uplift it. If you have any concerns or issues about that decision, you can speak to our Shops’ Controller while our drivers are there to clarify the situation.

Shop FAQ's

Gift Aid boosts the value of your donated items by 25%
Recently we have been doing work within some of the shops to maximise the funding we receive from our supporters.  We have introduced Gift Aid at our Furniture/Home and Leisure shop in the Paisley Centre and at  44B High Street, Johnstone. If successful we will extend this Gift Aid option to further goods and shops in the future.

Gift Aid boosts the value of your donated items by 25%

By saying ‘yes’ to Gift Aid when you donate items to ACCORD Hospice shops we can claim back 25% tax from HM Revenue and Customs when we sell the goods. That means more money to fund patient care!

How does it work?

Gift Aid can only be claimed on donations of a sum of money. When you donate goods to us, HM Revenue and Customs allow the Hospice to sell the goods on your behalf. The proceeds from the sale can then be donated by you to ACCORD under the retail Gift Aid scheme. When your items are sold, we’ll let you know (by letter or email) how much you’ve helped us raise and confirm that you’re happy for us to treat the money as a Gift Aid donation. We’ll then claim the extra money from HMRC – you don’t need to do anything. The great news is that the value of your kind donation of goods has been increased at no cost to you.

UPDATE on Shops and Stores during COVID

ACCORD Shops’ re-opening

We were delighted to re-open all of our shops on 26th of April.

Please note that donations will continue to be accepted at Glasgow Road only and only on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, from 10am to 1pm.

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE EXPECT A LOT OF DONATIONS FOLLOWING LOCKDOWN SO PLEASE COME EARLY ENSURE WE CAN TAKE YOUR DONATIONS.

We will take as much as is physically possible but we only have limited space for donations within this building. Past experience has seen us having to stop taking items after around 10.30am each morning due to the volume of people dropping off donations. We’ll do our best to take what we can.

Thank you in advance for your co-operation and understanding.

Appropriate signage is located at each of our buildings.

Thank you for all your support in these challenging times!
