Drumroll Please…………

The staff of the Day Therapy Unit are excited to launch a brand new service called “Wednesday Wishes”. This service will enable patients who are currently known to ACCORD to fulfil a particular goal or wish, This may be in the form of a simple day to day activity or a day out to a place of interest – whatever that wish may be, together as a team, we hope to achieve it.

Many people with a life limiting condition can feel isolated, vulnerable and trapped within their own homes, our aim is to support and enable them to accomplish the wish of their choice allowing them to participate in a purposeful and fulfilling experience at this stage of their lives.

First to take part and pilot our Wednesday Wishes programme one of our Day Therapy patients John, it was our pleasure to share John wish with him….

John, a 64 year old Paisley man has been attending ACCORD Hospice’s Day Therapy Unit since March last year, and loves to come to the Hospice. John, was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease in May 2018 and quickly realised he would need help and support along the way.

 ’When I came to the Hospice the first time I was relatively fit, I didn’t know what I was doing here. But now, it’s something I can’t do without’’

John really enjoys his visits and talking to the nurses, patients and volunteers. At the moment, due to his condition, the only time John gets out of the house is when the ACCORD drivers come to pick him up and take him to Day Therapy, ‘’Without the Hospice, I don’t think I would still be alive’’ were his words. Coming to Day Therapy gives him a purpose, gives him joy from having fun and taking on all the activities on offer.

‘’If there were more people in the world like the nurses at the Hospice, the world would be a much better place.’’

John recently spoke to the activities team at the Hospice as he wanted to go on a field trip.

As a long time football supporter, with Rangers and Liverpool being his favoured teams – John wanted to visit somewhere he had always wished to go, the Scottish Football Museum. In particular he wanted to see any memorabilia associated with one of his all-time heroes – Bill Shankly. The Scottish Football Museum staff were amazing with John and couldn’t have supported him and ACCORD more on the trip – so a thank you must be given to them!
